Athletes usually plunge for one to three minutes, so throughput depends on the number of tubs, not the time per person. For a race or big gym event, ask for several tubs and staff to manage the line, time each plunge, and keep the water topped up with ice or running on chillers.
What the site needs
- Level ground. Filled tubs are very heavy. A flat, firm surface away from the finish chute.
- Water and drainage. A hose to fill the tubs and a safe place to drain them.
- Power for chillers. Chilled tubs need outlets or a generator. Ice tubs need ice, which vendors usually bring.
- Permits. Races in parks or on city streets may need the vendor listed on the event permit and insurance.
- A warm-up spot. A sauna, heaters, or at least towels and a tent for athletes after the plunge.
Safety at events
Cold shock is real, especially for exhausted athletes. Staff should supervise every tub, keep plunges short, and watch for anyone who looks unwell. Anyone with a heart condition should check with a doctor first, and participants should sign the vendor’s waiver.
Questions to ask vendors
- How many tubs can you bring, and how many staff?
- Chilled or ice tubs, and what temperature do they hold?
- What do you need on site for water, power, and drainage?
- Can you be listed on our event permit and provide a certificate of insurance?
- Can you bring a sauna too?

Frequently asked questions
How many cold plunge tubs do I need for a race?+
It depends on the number of finishers and how long you run it. Plunges last one to three minutes, so more tubs means a shorter line. Tell the vendor your expected numbers and hours and they’ll recommend a count.
How much does a cold plunge cost for an event?+
As an add-on to a sauna rental, plunges among vendors we list run about $30–$150 each. Stand-alone multi-tub event setups with staff are usually quoted per event.
Do cold plunge vendors bring their own water and ice?+
Most bring ice and need a hose on site to fill the tubs. Chilled tubs need power instead of ice. Confirm both when you book.
